THE DESIGN CORPS
The Design Corps is an inclusive, lateral network of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math and Design changemakers at the forefront of this industrial revolution. We are LatinX, Black, LGBTQIA+, Indigenous, Filipino, Indian, Asian, Disabled, Aging and Veteran Womxn, Girls and fierce Femme allies daring to design a better future today. If you are ready to join in the social, ecological and economic reinvention & reconstruction of our planet, We Want You!
In 2018, we started an exploration with Business, Consumer, Academia, NGOs, the UN Foundation and Government stakeholders with the intent of establishing, orchestrating, acelerating and scaling a pipeline of S.T.E.A.M.D. professionals working to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and their promise of a fair future for people and the planet.
This series of speculative design explorations illuminated the need for a lateral network of community, city, state and plantary public service, civic media and tech initiatives— in the form of a design corps, a security corps, a climate corps and a health and infrastructure corps—that sparks a movement and estblishes a framework that ensures professional certification, living wages and an active commitment to life long learning upon completion of service. Doing this enables a new generation of global citizen creators, makers, inventors, engineers and designers advancing an increasingly green economy.
The Peace Corps, VISTA, Army Corps of Engineers and AmeriCorps offer ample precedent for these initiatives and have proved invaluable in encouraging public service and providing opportunities for people to learn new skills, which have helped them find career paths and employment.
In 2019, we launched the Design Corps as a purpose-driven network of S.T.E.A.M.D. students, educators and professional members. The Design Corps charter seeks to broaden access to S.T.E.A.M.D. curriculum, training, skills and professions by connecting agile, speculative design processes, emerging technologies and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. By doing this, Design By Us aims to lift people out of poverty and improve their quality of life by positioning them for sustainable growth at the nascent stages of a new industrial revolution.
The Designed By Us Design Corps is a collective network of members enlisted in a one of a kind S.T.E.A.M.D. leadership program that strives to reduce inequality, and protect the planet, by helping people shape and reinvent their lives while addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges.
The Design Corps welcomes any human who identifies as a Womxn, girl or femme ally. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential to the Design Corps mission.
The Design Corps acts as a non-partisan, participatory public service design and civic media & technology practice that places emphasis on the “triple bottom line” of exceptionally designed solutions to ecological, economic, and social challenges across the world.
Design Corps members deploy to purpose-driven Designed By Us Studio Programs. The Design Corps aims to enlist and enable 10 million people with access to internet connectivity, S.T.E.A.M.D. FutureSkills Curriculum, training, including workshops, apprenticeship programs, a repository of open source courses, master classes and a network of studios and sponsors by 2030.
